Virginia Savage brings a diversity of experience and expertise to our mountain retreats. Her Ph.D. in Sport Psychology provides the foundation for exploring human potential both personally and professionally and her business (www.savageperformance.net) offers training in education, sports, business, and life management. Karen Immerso, M.A.
Karen Immerso has worked in the outdoor program field since 1982. She enjoys the special connection with people and the natural environment and the opportunities for growth and renewal that work in the outdoors provides. Karen received a Masters Degree in Experiential Education from the University of Colorado. Her work with diverse populations, corporate clients and womens groups has been extensive. From 1990 to 1998 Karen worked as the Outdoor Program Director at Western State College. Since 1985 she has been facilitating and leading adventures in the rocky mountains for Outward Bound, the Women's Wilderness Institute, West Slope Resource Development and Walking the World. In her own community, she teaches piano, Spanish, pottery and sign language. Karen has facilitated and lead adventures in the Rocky Mountain for Outward Bound and other organizations. Karens previous international travels and present simple lifestyle in a small mountain town bring a balanced perspective to her work. An avid gardener and musician, she lives in Gunnison, Colorado. Angela Hawse, M.A.
Angela has worked as a climbing guide and instructor in the U.S., Canada, South America and Asia for 16 years. An early passion for high places turned her attention to the Himalayas where she ascended peaks in Pakistan, India and Nepal. She is fascinated by the geology, culture and religion of the East and has studied both Buddhism and yoga for 12 years. Fluent in Spanish, Angela has a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Outdoor Education and Natural History and a Master of Arts degree in International Mountain Conservation. She was the deputy leader of an Everest expedition that made the first disabled ascent in 1998, and went on to work as Director for the Windhorse Legacy, a non-profit educational organization. Angela has held jobs as a faculty lecturer for a small liberal arts college, a sea and white-water kayaking guide, a carpenter and an assistant manager in a climbing gym. Ultimately, she returns to the simple lifestyle that guiding provides. Angela loves to teach, play, juggle, balance on a tight rope and celebrate diversity. Back to top.

Judith Vanderryn, Ph.D
Judith Vanderryn, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist who works in a counseling center at a small liberal arts college in Durango, Colorado. Previously, she maintained a private clinical practice and consulted with community groups on violence prevention and mental health centers on preventative issues. Judith has extensive outdoor experience. She worked with a range of populations (including trauma survivors, substance abusers and business executives) for the Colorado Outward Bound School for over 10 years. Additionally, she has taught and guided summer and winter mountaineering programs in Colorado, Utah, and Alaska. Judith is married and the mother of two young sons. She lives in a co-housing community, where she has the chance to experiment and live with the principles of consensus decision-making, rearing children with neighbors, and living lightly on the land. Having spent much of her adult life adventuring in different environments and countries, she now skis, bikes, hikes, reads, gardens, sings, and plays with children in her spare time. Back to top.

Dale Whyte
Mountaineering, climbing and adventure skiing have drawn Dale Whyte to remote regions of the world, where she has been privileged to gain renewed perspective on her own "world". Such opportunities have reinforced Dales commitment to carve a life focused on promoting positive change at both the individual and societal level. Dale loves the opportunity for insight, growth and clarity that genuine relationships whether at home, work or play bring into life. Her 20- year career revolves around education, service and personal development. She convened and facilitated the planning group that resulted in the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning, one of the premier showcase Expeditionary Learning Schools in America. Dale also served as the Founding Projects Director for Americorps National Civilian Community Corps, a program that promote youth to serve their country in the areas of environment, education, safety and human services. She was a founding trustee of the Colorado Youth Corps Association and continues to serve on their Board. Since 1983, she has worked in various capacities for the Colorado Outward Bound School, a non-profit, outdoor education and is currently the Director of Operations. Dale and her husband live in Boulder, Colorado, where her daily balancing act includes health and well being, marriage, parenting her nephew, career, outdoor pursuits, painting, gardening, and home renovation.

Sue Nikolai
Born in Wisconsin, Sue has been an avid outdoor educator, trainer and guide for more than 20 years. She has lived in Colorado since 1979. For the past 10 years, she has worked for the Colorado Outward Bound School as a Course Director and Instructor. In this capacity, she had led month-long backpacking and mountaineering courses in Colorado and Alaska and has worked with special populations such as trauma survivors, cancer survivors and corporate groups. Previously, Sue worked as a professional ski patroller for 20 years, nine of those as the Director of Ski Patrol at Ski Estes Park and Eldorado Mountain Resort. She also spent numerous summers guiding river and mountain bike trips in Colorado and Utah. For the past three years, Sue has been raising a family and juggling part-time work with Outward Bound and as a facilitator in her community. She lives in Leadville, Colorado with her husband and two young daughters. Back to top. |

Sian Hauver
Sian Hauver has worked in the outdoor program field since 1984, guiding groups on the river, desert, and mountain terrain both in the USA and abroad. She is currently a Program Director at the Colorado Outward Bound School, running all adaptive programming for the school a mix of community leadership, health, and education courses for a wide span of special populations. Prior to this position, Sian worked for the Poudre R-1 School District, implementing a wilderness based drug and alcohol prevention program for 7th and 8th graders, and taught Spanish at the Colorado Mountain College. She is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont and the Instituto Internacional in Madrid, Spain. Sian enjoys sharing her love of the outdoors and her love of climbing with others. When not working or enjoying the out of doors, she is reading, playing piano, and preparing to be a new Mom!

Caroline J. Fisher, Ph.D
Caroline J. Fisher, PhD is the founder and president of Fisher Consulting Group, a firm specializing in leadership coaching and development, corporate team development, and organizational culture. She and her colleagues at Fisher Consulting offer a wide range of models, tools, coaching practices and methodologies to help organizations unleash the "human side" of the business to accelerate and achieve desired business results and a healthy, thriving work environment.
Carolines research over the last five years has helped clarify the link between corporate culture (i.e. values, work environment) and bottom-line performance indicators such as profitability, market share, sales growth, quality, innovation and employee satisfaction. She has consulted for a variety of international organization, municipalities and non-profit organizations. Caroline holds a Masters Degree in Organization Development and Management, and a Doctorate in Organizational Psychology. Her work on business culture has been featured in numerous publications and international conferences.
